School is back in session for many campuses across North Texas, but it’s far from a typical school year. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many changes to the academic landscape, but whether schools are resuming in-person or virtually, Site Coordinators and other CISNT staff are welcoming students back to school with open arms and masks on!
Lewisville ISD began virtual learning on August 19, and at Vickery Elementary School, CISNT Site Coordinator Farren Barnett welcomed students back with a colorful and interactive virtual classroom!
Ms. Barnett’s virtual classroom featured two different “rooms” with books and social-emotional learning activities. Each room featured a “menu” of different books and activities, and students could access recorded book readings and mindfulness activities by clicking on each item. Ms. Barnett truly went above and beyond, and we love her colorful and engaging virtual classroom!
At Bridgeport Middle School, Site Coordinator Jamey Carpenter brought students into the classroom through an exciting virtual video tour of her remodeled CISNT classroom. Mrs. Carpenter’s space is an old science lab, so she had quite the challenge on her hands when it came to making the room safe and welcoming for CISNT students – and she did an amazing job!
Mrs. Carpenter’s remodeled room featured some awesome and creative solutions for the unique space, including a ventilation hood-turned-school supply cubby, a snack bar, and throw rugs and throw pillows to make the space cozy. We know that Mrs. Carpenter’s room will be an awesome and welcoming place for our CISNT students over the year! To watch a full tour of her room, click here!
At Chisholm Trail Middle School, Site Coordinator Ryan Hooper started the year off with a little face-to-face time – from a safe distance and with masks on, of course!
Traditionally, Site Coordinators conduct home visits as part of their case-management services, but this year, home visits have been turned into “porch visits” for health and safety reasons. This year’s porch visits have been aimed at delivering food to families in need, getting parent consent forms signed, and facilitating connections between Site Coordinators and CISNT students.
Mr. Hooper conducted porch visits specifically for his CISNT students who were doing virtual, at-home learning in order to bridge the virtual school gap. The porch visits have been incredibly successful – food deliveries and checkin’s have been impactful for both Site Coordinators, who have worked remotely since March, and for students and their families!
Way to go, Ms. Barnett, Mrs. Carpenter, and Mr. Hooper!
Though our Site Coordinators and students alike are tackling a very different kind of school year, we know that they will make the best of it and go above and beyond to achieve success!
