For students, uprooting and moving to a completely different school can pose a challenge both socially and academically. At Rodriguez Middle School, CISNT Site Coordinator Silvia Saju was able to help a new student feel welcome and supported at his new campus.
Leon started the school year with a major life change. He moved from Houston to the Dallas-Fort Worth region on Sunday, and started school the very next day on Monday. At first, things were hard – Leon had moved around quite a bit, and he struggled with regulating his emotions and trusting people at his new campus.
Ms. Saju quickly enrolled Leon in the CISNT program at Rodriguez Middle School and began providing extra support to help Leon be successful.
Ms. Saju writes:
“Leon came in for supportive guidance almost every day the first initial weeks while he adapted to the new school. I plugged him into small groups as an avenue for him to meet more students his age. We worked together to come up with a plan for Leon, letting Leon have the primary say in how he wanted to target his goals.”
Within a couple of months of Leon joining the CISNT program at RMS, Ms. Saju has seen Leon make great progress in settling into his new environment and becoming the best version of himself!
Ms. Saju writes:
“Leon is adjusting well to classes, making friends, and overall thriving here at RMS with support from CISNT, his teachers, counselors, and school staff! He attends CISNT small groups and loves to speak up and share. Though it has only been a few months, Leon has made tremendous strides, and I am incredibly proud of him!”
Way to go, Leon and Ms. Saju! We are thrilled to see Leon growing and thriving at his new school, and we are proud of Ms. Saju for going above and beyond to make Leon feel welcomed and supported after his move to the area.
