Mentor Brings Hope to Student

AC is a student at Hedrick Middle School who was referred to CISNT after his father passed away. AC’s mother worried about the challenges AC was facing after losing his dad so she reached out to the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Z, and expressed hope that AC could be connected with a mentor.

Mrs. Z referred AC to the CISNT program and Katie Ortiz, CISNT Site Coordinator at Hedrick Middle School, matched AC with a community volunteer, Mr. David. They have been meeting weekly since early September and are already enjoying a great start after their first few meetings! Mrs. Ortiz share that when AC first heard that someone named Mr. David would be his mentor, he gave a huge smile and said, “that was my dad’s name.”

AC now looks forward to each of his meetings with Mr. David, and they are building a trusting relationship together all while AC is at school. Their relationship will be able to last for all of AC’s middle and high school years thanks to the CISNT programs at Hedrick, and Lewisville High School’s Harmon, Killough, and Main campuses.

This is a beautiful example of how caring collaboration mixed with community support can positively impact a student’s life. CISNT believes every student needs and deserves a one-to-one relationship with a caring adult and we are thrilled AC has built a great relationship with Mr. David. We look forward to continuing to watch their relationship grow!
