I would like to brag on one of my mentors David Vierling. David has mentored for Communities In Schools at Central Elementary for several years, and he is very dedicated to the program.
This year David agreed to mentor not one, but two of our 4th grade boys! When David learned that his mentees needed help with social skills as well as academics, he agreed to teach chess to his mentees. David has patiently taught the boys how to play chess while incorporating math and teaching them etiquette and good sportsmanship.
The positive qualities that David exhibits on a weekly basis such as patience, respect, and perseverance are a great example to our students on how young men should behave. He is always looking for ways to improve his time with his mentees and make sure they are receiving what they need to be successful in school. Mr. Vierling is a wonderful addition to my CIS program!
