I met Kaela Byrd eight years ago as one of the first students during the very first year of the Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) program began operating at Calhoun Middle School in Denton, TX. Kaela was in my ACE class for the next two years at Strickland, and she was a student that I built a great working relationship with.
Now six years later, Kaela is a college student at the University of North Texas studying Business Management with a focus on Recreation Event and Sports Management. Recently she has rejoined the CISNT ACE program at Strickland Middle School, but this time as an employee! Since joining our team as an Academic Enrichment Specialist, Kaela has worked extremely hard to create a welcoming and exciting environment for our students.
It has truly been an awesome experience to watch one of CISNT’s own former students give back and work tirelessly with our current students. I don’t think Kaela even realizes how amazing that feels to me as her former teacher to watch her in this new role. I am so appreciative to Kaela for remembering us, and wanting to remain a part of the CISNT family! Thank you, Kaela, for becoming such a great leader in our community!
