Sammy’s Bracelet

This past November at Chisholm Trail Middle School in Rhome, TX, students in my “Bulldog Buddies” girls’ self-esteem and social skills lunch group participated in an activity to create special bracelets to give to someone they were thankful for in their life. I watched as many students made bracelets for mothers, fathers, and siblings.

Later that afternoon, a student named Sammy came in to work in a math tutoring group. They were hard at work when I noticed a bracelet on Sammy’s wrist with his name on it. It looked familiar. Then it dawned on me that a student from my lunch group had made it for him!

We discussed the importance and meaning of the bracelet—that someone decided to give it to a fellow student because they were thankful for them. It really raised Sammy’s self esteem and reminded us of the positive impact we can make on each other.
