What was your favorite subject to teach when you were in the classroom? Social studies because it was alive. To be able to teach stuff that was around, especially Texas History. To be able to visit the Alamo and where the Battle of San Jacinto took place really gets the kids excited about learning.
If you had chosen a different career path what would it have been? Youth Ministry because of the ability to work with kids and really make an impact. They say that a coach will impact over 30,000 kids in their lifetime, and while youth ministry would be a smaller amount you still really are able to impact a large number of students and really make a positive change in their life.
What advice would you give to a student that you wish someone had given to you at their age? It’s never as bad as it seems, this too shall pass. Work hard for everything because nothing will ever be given to you.
What does having a CIS Program on your campus mean to you? To your campus? I want ACE to be an extension of our campus, I want us to be one because is an opportunity to extend our learning, extend our relationships, and to extend our ability to help our kids. It’s an opportunity to further encourage them and engage them in the learning process.
How does CIS help your campus reach its goals?
We have a lot of students that have big gaps and there is just not enough minutes in the day for the intervention that is needed. ACE comes in and helps extend that learning and helps close that gap.
In what ways does your CIS Site Coordinator positively impact the students and/or campus?
What I’ve seen since she’s come in is that she really wants that connectability piece between the campus and ACE. She really embodies our motto, love, serve, care with the kids, her staff, parents, and teachers.
