Message from our CEO on COVID-19

Partners, Volunteers, Stakeholders, and Friends:

First and foremost, a word of thanks. During the COVID-19 crisis, we have been extremely thankful for the flood of supportive messages, offers for donations, and commitment of continued support from our community partners. We cannot thank you enough for this- it means the world to have our community with us during this disaster period!

Communities In Schools of North Texas continues on with our work to serve students and families here in Denton and Wise Counties. As we continue to monitor and adjust in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have moved all of our staff to work remotely instead of on school campuses. We will continue to observe best practices to protect the health and safety of our staff and volunteers. However, while working remotely, our commitment to empower students to succeed in school and in life holds STEADFAST!

As you know, our services are built around the belief that every child deserves a “community of support”. This could not be more true than during a disaster like we are in right now. We happen to work with the BEST school districts in Texas who are committed to making sure students are fed, equipped, and ready to learn remotely. We will continue to partner and work in tandem with our districts to ensure these basic essentials are in place.

We could also not have a more dedicated team of staff, interns, and AmeriCorps Members here at CISNT. As we all adapt to the changes under the COVID crisis, we will continue to support students and families, connecting them to needed resources and services. Our staff have been busy this week with:

  • Check-ins with families by phone to provide connection, emotional support, and needs assessment.
  • Resource and referral services to connect and empower families to navigate the various systems of support available to them.
  • Collection and distribution of snacks and meals for families living with food insecurity.
Thank you for the patience and support you have shown us as we have pivoted to remote operations this past week. For ways you can get involved and show your support for students during this crisis, check out our “Virtual Community of Support” page here: http://cisnt.org/virtual/.

As a leader of a community-based, community-supported nonprofit, I am eternally grateful for the support you show us each day at CISNT. I pray that you will all stay healthy and well.

On behalf of our staff, board, families, and students- thank you for being #allinforkids!

Sincerely,

Ann Pape Wilson
Chief Executive Officer
Communities In Schools of North Texas

In this time of social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have implemented various ways to virtually support our students.

Practicing Mindfulness

During times of crisis, it is perfectly normal to feel stress and anxiety. To help us through this, the Mental Health Team at Communities In Schools of North Texas has developed a short video activity to help us practice Mindfulness. Please take a moment to watch, practice, and share with others.
