Congratulations to Mrs. Rachel Sullivan, the 2025 Communities In Schools of North Texas Educator of the Year!
Rachel Sullivan has worked in education for 19 years and served with CISNT for five years. Ms. Samantha Guerra Pereyra, Site Coordinator at Rivera Elementary, states that from day one Rachel has been a fierce advocate for students, strengthening the structures that support them.
Upon starting at Rivera, Rachel’s deep understanding of her students’ challenges enabled her to meet them and their families where they are. “Rachel saw a need for students’ clothing at school and obtained a washer and dryer for [the] school within a month.” In December, CISNT partnered with a church to host an event for Rivera families. When Rachel learned that one student couldn’t attend, she immediately volunteered to take her, ensuring the student and her sister could participate in the activities and receive holiday gifts. These acts of kindness highlight Rachel’s commitment to her students beyond the classroom.
Rachel’s dedication extends beyond Rivera—she has been a valuable supporter of Communities In Schools, recognizing and appreciating the vital work of our Site Coordinator. She has assisted in recruiting mentors for our students and even organized snack donations when supplies ran low. Aware of the significant hunger disparities faced by the community she serves, she wholeheartedly backed the Rivera Mercado (Food Pantry) initiative by clearing out a space to ensure that students have access to a well-organized pantry.
Having a leader like Rachel at Rivera is vital for her community, and her unwavering commitment to addressing students’ needs and supporting CIS is truly the embodiment of an educator’s dedication.
Congratulations to Rachel Sullivan on being named the Educator of the Year!
