Congratulations, Oscar Gomez, 2025 Elementary Student of the Year!

Congratulations to Oscar, the 2025 Communities In Schools of North Texas Elementary Student of the Year!

Oscar attends Central Elementary in Lewisville ISD and has been with CISNT for 4 years. He is a very sweet, thoughtful, and charismatic student who you wouldn’t guess had to overcome some big challenges. Oscar was first enrolled in CIS in 2nd grade due to concerns with behavior and academics. Challenges in his home and school life impacted his ability to focus on learning, and with limited space for studying or assistance with schoolwork, he was falling behind.

With the help of Ms. Nellie Apodaca, CISNT Site Coordinator at Central Elementary, Oscar received necessary academic support and mentorship. With the help of his academic coach, he showed steady improvement in reading and math, earning recognition as the most improved student in both subjects for two years and receiving an award for being the ‘Top Student’ in his classroom. His STAAR scores also improved, and he no longer fell behind in his work. By the end of the school year, Oscar’s self-esteem and academics had improved significantly.

Oscar’s growth extended beyond academics as he developed stronger social skills, taking on leadership roles such as trying out for a “House Leader” position. He was chosen as first in command for his house and has become a well-respected member of his school community.

Everyone who knows Oscar has nothing but kind words and admiration for him. His journey embodies the values and mission of CISNT, and he is empowered by those around him to stay in school and achieve in life.

We are honored to celebrate Oscar as our Elementary Student of the Year!
