The majority of student we case manage at Lake Dallas Middle School are targeted for Academics. At times it might seem impossible for one Site Coordinator to break themselves into 100 pieces and be able to serve all of the students on our caseload. Thankfully we do not have to do it alone. We have some awesome Mentors, Academic Coaches and Service Learning Volunteers to help us out.
Because our Mentors and Academic Coaches meet with the same students weekly, they are able to build a better relationship with our students, making it easier for them to accomplish tasks. Our Service Learning Volunteers don’t always get the opportunity to work with the same students. And once they finish their class requirement hours, they usually end their time volunteering. Our students do not make an effort to make a connection with them. You can even say that Service Learning Volunteers have a more difficult job when trying to help a student out.
This is not the case with Meagan. Meagan is one of our Service Learning Volunteers pursuing an education degree at the University of North Texas. She began her service learning hours in the fall semester. She has worked with many of our students, and with each one she has been able to adapt her teaching technique to fit their learning style. She makes every single student that she works with feel extremely important and gives them her undivided attention. This all has helped her become very popular with all of our students. Many students make requests to be able to work with her!
I am very thankful for all Meagan has done for our students this year, and I know she will be an awesome teacher in the future!
