Angie and Anahi are fourth grade students at Peters Colony Elementary in The Colony, TX, who also participate in the Communities In Schools of North Texas Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) program. They came to CISNT program because they wanted to participate in the soccer club. They love to play the sport but come from families who do not have the means to enroll them in an after school soccer activity due to time and financial constraints.
Angie and Anahi joined CISNT in January, and they have never missed a soccer practice. They are not intimidated by the boys, even though they are the only girls in the club. I see their persistence when they are on the field. Some boys on the team complain about having to run laps and do not follow their coach’s directions. Angie and Anahi have always pushed themselves without saying a word, but you can always see smiles on their faces.
They have also joined the math tutoring group to help them with their math grades, and they consistently attend without complaining about missing recess. I am very proud of these girls’ determination and positive attitude, and I am sure they will succeed in school and achieve in life.
