For only being a 6th grade student, Stephanie has taken over Lakeside Middle School by storm. She is a scholar, an athlete, a good friend, a huge help, and most importantly, our first ever recipient of the “Do Work” Award. “Do Work” is a quote at Lakeside Middle that you will hear a lot. That’s because it was the favorite saying of Mr. Darryl Butler, an amazing teacher that worked at Lakeside and the CISNT Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) program for many years.
Unfortunately, Mr. Butler died last summer, right after he helped with the ACE summer program. His loss was incredibly difficult for students and staff alike. However, Lakeside has been able to make sure that the legacy of Mr. Butler and his intense passion to help every student will never fade away. That is why this year we started the “Do Work” Award.
Stephanie lives by the phrase “Do Work” with everything she does. She works hard in class, pays attention, and respects her teachers. Her hard work paid off with A’s and B’s for the whole year. She works hard in AVID, a college preparedness course at Lakeside Middle School, because she knows that she wants to become a veterinarian one day and has many years of college ahead of her.
Stephanie is also a talented artist, having her water color piece selected to be our showcase feature at our premier ACE Art Gallery. Stephanie is a basketball enthusiast, working hard to make the Lakeside basketball team tryouts next year. Everything Stephanie does, she does to the fullest. Because of this, she was unanimously chosen by the ACE staff to win the highest award at our ACE Award Ceremony a few weeks ago.
We are incredibly proud of Stephanie. Club ACE is happy that we can continue the legacy of an inspirational teacher by acknowledging our hardest working students. Stephanie is a student that takes accountability for her life and her future, and that is why she is our standout student this year. Congratulations Stephanie! Do Work!
