Chloe is an 8th grader at Chisholm Trail Middle School in Rhome, TX who came to me earlier in the year for basic needs assistance. We spent some time talking about her needs and after explaining to her about a few of the other programs I run on campus she was very excited to get involved. First, she jumped right into our “amiibros” academics group, and due to her grades, her pokemon Jigglypuff amiibo won its first few battles right off the bat! She gets very pumped up and excited when her character is doing well, cheering the character on and reveling in victory.
Chloe is also involved with our Bridge to Success program which aims to promote college and career awareness and readiness. Working through the AVID classrooms, we meet once a week on Wednesdays to participate in special activities and discussions. Through Bridge to Success, Chloe has spoken with school counselors about classes in high school, endorsements and academies, and discuessed what college is actually like. She has taken career assessments to determine what job fits her personality best and what she needs to do to make her dreams come true.
Chloe has also participated in discussing interview questions for getting a job in preparation for mock interviews. She has even designed a Super Mario video game level as part of a career spotlight/creative team building exercise! We even recently discussed her future; whether she should attend the Cosmetology Academy or go to Northwest High School for sports to hopefully earn a scholarship. She decided to go for the more traditional high school experience so she can participate in sports and still take cosmetology classes. Chloe has such a bright future ahead of her, and I’m honored to be here to help her as much as I can while she’s here in middle school.
