Today, we present a student interview with N’kaylie, a fifth grader at Rockbrook Elementary in Lewisville, TX! She has been in the Communities In Schools program for 2 years working one-on-one with an intern, participating in a girls’ leadership group, and receiving mentoring services from a high school buddy.
Ashley Vanderwater (CIS): What do you like most being in the CIS program?
N’Kaylie: I feel like I can be around other students that are like me where I can express myself and not feel judged.
CIS: How has it helped you?
N: I like talking with Ms. V when I am having a bad day because it helps me calm down and feel better.
CIS: What things would you like to work on in 5th grade?
N: I have a hard time with reacting to other kids, and I want to get better at taking responsibility for my actions when I am mad.
We are excited to see N’Kaylie’s continued growth this school year!
