Emma is a student at Justin Elementary in Justin, TX. She comes from an economically disadvantaged family where neither of her parents have a high school degree.
Emma first came into the office asking for help on a homework assignment that she did not quite understand due to a language barrier. She was a little worried about her workload because she knew her parents would have a hard time helping her.
I paired Emma with one of our student University of North Texas Math tutors. Emma has consistently been meeting each week with her tutor, and they have sets academic goals that she has striven to meet.
Although Emma’s background is challenging, she sets high goals for herself. She recently told me that she enjoys working with her tutor and that she understands her homework and classroom better because she has the extra help she needs.
