Mr. Thomas spends most of his retired days volunteering in his community. This is not his first rodeo volunteering with Communities In Schools at Evers Park Elementary. Mr. Thomas volunteered once before, but this year, he chose to be a mentor.
At our first meeting, Mr. Thomas revealed that he is an avid reader. I asked him if he would be willing to work with Justice, a 2nd grader who is below his reading level. He welcomed the challenge!
Mr. Thomas had his second visit this week, I was able to sneak this snapshot of Mr. Thomas and Justice working on writing this week and matching sounds. Mr. Thomas is very patient with the struggles Justice is facing academically. He comes prepared with activities that engages and excites Justice.
Thank you, Mr. Thomas, for your efforts to engage your mentee in his academics while also building a relationship that is pushing him to achieve academic success.
