May 6, 2019 is National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day!
At Communities In Schools of North Texas, we know that mental health is a critical component of student wellness and academic achievement. In fact, Mental Health America (2016) says that “mental health and learning are deeply interwoven. The Healthy Schools Campaign in 2017 even said that “Unnoticed issues can lead to distraction and lower school engagement, a student being held back, and even school drop-out”.
CISNT works to empower students with the tools to prevent and overcome mental and behavioral health challenges, providing a healthy start and a healthy future for all kids. This school year, CISNT Site Coordinators and the CIS Mental Health Coordinator have brought mental and behavioral health supports to more than 1,600 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade across North Texas. Check back every Monday in May (National Mental Health Month) for stories of how CISNT is positively impacting student mental health!
